Punjab Technical University participated in
‘Digital India Week’
Supporting the initiative of government, IK Gujral Punjab Technical University participated in ‘Digital India Week’ on its main campus here today.
Various banners were displayed in the campus to aware the students and visitors regarding the significance of this digital week. On the concluding day today, a seminar was organised in which all the Deans, Directors, Registrar, other officers and staff participated. The importance and objectives of Digital India Services along with the use of applications of numerous e-services like e-hospitals, elockers, ebasta etc were highlighted.
Later, the heads of various departments shared their digital initiatives taken. Sunil Kumar, Deputy Registrar, computer section, informed, “The e-office has been implemented successfully for paperless working on the campus. Other initiatives include conducting of centralised online counseling for making admission of students in various technical, architectural, management, pharmacy and other applied courses; providing online submission of examination forms, results and certificates to the its students; implementation of biometric attendance in the university; web portal Phdonline.com has been developed for Ph.D admissions, it provides online facility to access status, submission of reports, synopsis, abstract and fee deposition etc.”
To improve the quality of PhD thesis, turnitin software provided to supervisors for online checking of plagiarism by department of Research, Innovation and Consultancy (RIC). Deputy Librarian Madhu Middha shared the digital initiatives done in the library like e-journals, e-books etc.
Officiating Registrar Dr Amanpreet Singh said, “This initiative is considered to be a step forward to make India a developed nation. Our university has committed to strengthen digital India initiative of the Government of India by providing numerous e-services. We will surely put more efforts so that our employees could strengthen themselves digitally and could compete the digitally advance world effectively.”
District-level programme
A district-level programme was organised today at the Red Cross Bhawan to celebrate the last day of Digital India Week that was presided over by Deputy Commissioner Kamal Kishor Yadav.
While addressing the gathering, the DC said, “Digital India Week has just commenced. The administration is committed to make reach the movement at new heights to make Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s dream come true.”
He said the Digital India Week has been successful in the district as various programmes have been organised in the district.
“During the Digital India Week, all the official and employees in the district were provided with technical knowledge in computer. As well as the student also participated in event keenly. Apart from this common people also participated in digital photography competitions. A publicity van also moved in the district to aware the people about importance of the digital technology in the coming future,” said the DC.
